Lincoln's Inn Event

On 25th February 2015 ten members of the University of Westminster’s Bar Society were given the opportunity to attend an event at Lincoln’s Inn alongside undergraduate students from across the country.
Lincoln’s Inn is one of the four Inns of Court which are an association of Barristers. Students seeking to pursue a career at the Bar must join one such association. There are four such Inns in total – Lincoln’s Inn, Middle Temple, Inner Temple and Gray’s Inn. The Inns are the only institutions which have the power to call students to the Bar upon completion of their BPTC. They also provide support for aspiring barristers through educational and social activities.
At the event students heard from barristers on a range of subjects, including training, career opportunities and life at the Bar.
“We were spoken to by a diverse range of members from different backgrounds” (Scott, First year Law).
The talks were followed by a more informal drinks reception and dinner. Olga (First year, Law ) felt the dinner “was an ideal opportunity to socialise, exchange ideas and get to know the Bar profession even better”.
The students were able to chat informally over dinner with practising barristers and judges who are members of the Inn about the areas of law they are considering entering in the future. They gave advice on what students need to achieve in order to become a successful barrister.
Stefan, (First year Law) and Amy (Second year, Law) felt the highlight of the event was “taking to all different types of barristers and gaining valuable advice from them”.
Amy commented “I very much enjoyed the event and being able to meet such an interesting group of people”.
In March 2015 members will also attending a dinner at Inner Temple and a tour of Gray’s Inn.
The University of Westminster’s Bar Society is a student-led society which aims to help students make an informed choice about their legal career. The society runs events throughout the year for students to attend both on and off campus.
