Well if you are reading in the rain, then I tip my hat off to you .. Then again I'd probably keep it on, considering the delightful weather.
Now as a law student it is important that you keep up with current news and affairs.. that being said, here are the top 2 news picks of the week;
NHS (National Health Service) staff are currently on strike in a dispute over pay. Unions on strike comprised of Nurses, health care assistants, ambulance staff, midwives and maintenance staff. This is excluding doctors and dentists (they don't really need to strike as their rate of pay is much higher!) Some NHS workers have been offered a 1% increase in their salaries. But here is some food for thought, MP's are getting a 9% increase in their salaries. To top this off, Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has the cheek to say that this '1% pay rise for all NHS staff could lead to job losses' I wonder, if all the Managing directors and MP's didn't have ludicrous increases on their wages, maybe, just maybe we would be able to fund the NHS and reward people who actively take care of others in society..
Nigel Farage current leader for UKIP (United Kingdom Independent Party) will be taking part in a TV Debate, on the channel ITV alongside the other major parties, Conservative - David Cameron (Current Prime Minister) Labour - Ed Milliband and of course the Liberal Democrats - Nick Clegg. Of course, there are mixed reactions from the party leaders; David Cameron seems somewhat irritated, having asked why all the debates were planned during the election campaign, "rather than spreading them out over a longer period". Hmm I don't know.. Perhaps so we can get talks over and done with rather than wait for you to prepare false promises that beat around the bush?? Instead of stalling for time, the Prime Minister himself should welcome this, and be prepared to answer questions raised by the public! On a more optimistic note, Ed Miliband commented that the proposal for a TV Debate is a "positive step forward". Nigel Farage also commented that this broadcast recognises "the increasing popularity of UKIP" This will be something worth keeping an eye out for..
I leave you guys and gals with Lesson no. 4 = Read the news at least once a week!
